So welcome to the UNESCO MIL MOOC, “Media Information and Literacy for Young People of South East Europe and Turkey”, implemented by Aquarius within the framework of the UNESCO project “Building Trust in Media in SEE and Turkey – Phase 2”, funded by the European Union”. These Open Online Courses share content on MIL competencies, information verification and dialogue. The MOOCs consist of 8 modules adapted from MIL Curriculum for teachers that are adjusted by other media organisations professionals accordingly to apply for interested journalism or other students and youth organisations in the region.
In the context of a rapid digital transformation and the thriving of information chaos characterized by a decline in the commitment of professional journalistic standards, the thriving of disinformation, and a clear decline in the civil society’s trust in media, the project “Building Trust in Media in South East Europe and Turkey – Phase 2” aims at increasing critical thinking among youth thanks to piloting of MIL in formal and non-formal education; improving good governance of media outlets and their capacities to counter disinformation; and strengthening media accountability through efficient and sustainable media and self-regulation mechanisms.
